Talk Like a Pirate Day

On Saturday 19th September 2020, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of International ‘Talk Like a Pirate Day’, budding buccaneers are invited to meet live pirates at the Shipwreck Treasure Museum.

Children dressed as their favourite swashbucklers can enter for free, and every child who visits on ‘Talk Like a Pirate Day’ will receive a special activity trail containing swashbuckling activities, plus a guide on how to talk like a pirate.

They can follow the trail to locate the hidden Jolly Rogers around the museum and discover more about the pirate Captains that flew the infamous flags!

Live pirates will be swaggering the corridors between 10.00am and 4.30pm, telling tales of piracy on the high seas, along with the conditions they lived in and their unique way of life.

Daniel Scholes, Museum Supervisor says: “Wherever there have been ships sailing the seven seas, there have been pirates on the lookout for treasure. The captivating stories of buccaneers chasing their prize add so much colour to the tales that are told about our maritime past. It’s with this in mind that we raise a cup of grog in celebration of International Talk Like a Pirate Day!”

With genuine pieces of eight salvaged booty from the bottom of the ocean and remains of a wrecked pirate ship, the Shipwreck Treasure Museum is the perfect place to celebrate the day.
